Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Edet Otu has reaffirmed his administration\u2019s commitment to security in the state with the provision of well equipped 30 operational vehicles to the state\u2019s Joint Task Force (JTF) on security.<\/p>\n

A press release by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Nsa Gill, said this marks the first phase of a larger plan to deploy a total of 100 vehicles to enhance security operations across the state.<\/p>\n

In addition, the JTF which comprises personnel from the Nigerian Army, Police, Air Force, Navy, Department of State Services (DSS), Immigration Service, and Correctional Service, has been renamed from Operation Akpakwu to Operation Okwok.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the official handover ceremony on Thursday, attended by senior government officials and security heads, Governor Otu emphasized his administration\u2019s zero-tolerance to crime, noting that his leadership\u2019s morale-boosting support for security agencies began with infrastructure upgrades, including improved internal roads network and remodeled buildings within security formations.<\/p>\n

\u201cCross River State is safer than ever,\u201d the governor declared, adding that \u201ccases of kidnapping have declined significantly, and robbery is nearly nonexistent. These achievements are due to the dedication of our security forces.\u201d<\/p>\n

He reiterated that no one, regardless of status, would be exempted if found culpable to crime. \u201cWe are committed to ensuring peace, and anyone who threatens that peace will face the full weight of the law,\u201d he warned.<\/p>\n

Governor Otu also outlined future security plans to include strengthening marine patrols, acquiring gunboats and drones for advanced surveillance, and recruiting personnel for a homeland security structure to enhance security.<\/p>\n

He assured investors that Cross River remains a secure destination for business, with the government dedicated to protecting investments and ensuring security.<\/p>\n

Emphasizing public participation in security efforts, he urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities. \u201cSecurity is a shared responsibility. If you see something, say something,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

The State Security Adviser, Major General Okoi Ubi Obono (Rtd), in his remarks, described the initiative as a milestone in the state\u2019s fight against crime.<\/p>\n

He explained the significance of the new name, Operation Okwok, an Efik word for \u201cbee\u201d noting, \u201cdon\u2019t let the sweetness of the bees fool you. Bees are highly territorial and fiercely protect their hive. Just like that, Operation Okwok is here to secure Cross River\u2014producing honey when needed but stinging when provoked\u201d..<\/p>\n

Also speaking, the Commissioner of Police, CP Gyogon Augustine Grimah, commended Governor Otu\u2019s unwavering support for security agencies, calling the donation a \u201cfestival of vehicles.\u201d<\/p>\n

He noted that several security formations had received operational vehicles in recent weeks, reinforcing the administration\u2019s commitment to safety.<\/p>\n
