The Cross River State Government has appointed Pula Advisors as Lead Consultant for its European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) Compliance and Traceability Programme across cocoa, coffee and oil palm value chains.<\/p>\n

A release from the Governor\u2019s Office Press Unit said the move is to achieve full visibility of land use, supply-chain activities, end deforestation.<\/p>\n

The announcement follows a rigorous six-month engagement and technical review by the State\u2019s Multistakeholder Committee, marking what officials described as \u201ca major step towards global-standard sustainability governance.\u201d<\/p>\n

Governor Prince Bassey Edet Otu hailed the partnership as a crucial milestone in the State\u2019s agricultural transformation saying ,\u201cCross River State is taking a decisive step to secure the future of our farmers by meeting the highest global standards for sustainability and market access\u201d.<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cthis partnership with Pula places us at the forefront of digital agriculture governance in Nigeria.\u201d<\/p>\n

Over the course of the engagement, Pula and the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation Development designed a system that will give the State full visibility of land use, supply-chain activities and deforestation risks.<\/p>\n

Officials said the framework combines end-to-end traceability, land mapping, geolocation analytics and a unified digital information platform.<\/p>\n

With EU rules requiring deforestation-free commodities, the programme is considered essential for Cross River\u2019s long-term competitiveness.<\/p>\n

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Irrigation Development, Rt. Hon. Johnson Ebokpo, underscored the strategic value of the partnership, saying \u201cEUDR compliance is an opportunity to modernize our agricultural sector and strengthen data-driven decision-making.<\/p>\n

\u201cPula\u2019s expertise gives us confidence that this exercise will be executed with precision, integrity and speed.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Multistakeholder Committee\u2019s technical evaluation highlighted Pula\u2019s strong alignment with the State\u2019s 7-Year Agriculture Strategic Plan.<\/p>\n

The Committee noted the company\u2019s proven track record in farmer registration, polygon mapping, geolocation verification and digital platform development. It emphasized that Pula\u2019s experience in Uganda and Ethiopia \u201cpositioned them as the most capable partner to lead this ambitious initiative.\u201d<\/p>\n

Committee Chairperson, Professor Susan Ohen, described the exercise as historic in scale. \u201cThis project represents one of the most ambitious traceability efforts ever undertaken in Cross River State,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were particularly impressed by Pula\u2019s capacity in AI-driven deforestation monitoring and geolocation analytics\u201d, she said noting that the Committee is committed to mobilizing farmer associations, MDAs and traditional institutions to ensure full participation.<\/p>\n

Representing Pula Advisors, Country Director Michael Enahoro reaffirmed the firm\u2019s commitment to delivering a world-class system. \u201cCross River State has made a bold and forward-looking decision,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy investing in digital infrastructure and real-time risk assessment, the State is protecting its producers\u2019 access to the EU market and positioning itself as a leader in sustainable agriculture in Nigeria.\u201d<\/p>\n

The exercise, expected to map about 80,000 farms and conclude by Q2 2026, is anticipated to enhance transparency, strengthen climate resilience and advance the State\u2019s transition to a modern, data-driven agricultural economy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
